Motorcycle Safety Education Program

Current programs offered by 澳门黄金城赌城 and the Motorcycle Safety Foundation at the Emergency Services Training Center include: Basic Rider Course, Basic Rider Course 2 - Skills Practice, Advanced Rider Course, and 3-Wheel Basic Rider Course.

Basic Rider Course

This course is designed for students who want to learn to ride a motorcycle and for re-entry riders who have not ridden in a long time. BRC students will ride motorcycles provided by the college. BRC graduates receive an exemption from the NC DMV riding exam when applying for a motorcycle license.

Details about Basic Rider Course

  • No prior motorcycle experience is needed for the BASIC Rider Course.
  • Must be 16 years of age or older. Students under the age of 18 must have the written consent of a parent or guardian. Parent or guardian must accompany the rider on the first night of class and sign a waiver for the rider to operate a motorcycle.
  • A driver's license or learners permit is not required to take the course.
  • Requirements for the class:
    • Long sleeve shirt or jacket.
    • Long pants.
    • Sturdy over the ankle boots or shoes.
    • Full-fingered gloves.
    • Protective eye wear (glasses or face shield).
    • DOT Approved Helmet (due to to COVID 19 we cannot loan helmets)
  • Motorcycles and training manuals are provided for each student.
  • Dress for inclement weather. Generally, instruction will only be cancelled in the event of campus-wide inclement weather.
  • Students must be able to ride and balance a bicycle prior to taking this course. Those with health concerns and limited mobility should consult a physician prior to registering for this course due to the demanding physical activity required.
  • Students unable to safely perform the riding activities required of the course may, at the discretion of the Rider Coaches, be asked to withdraw from the course. Students are free to withdraw from the course at any time they feel uncomfortable to ride during the course. In either case, registration fees are nonrefundable.

Basic Rider Course 2 - Skills Practice

BRC2 Skills Practice Rider Course is designed for riders who have a permit and possess basic skills. It is designed to help you bond more with your motorcycle. It consists of only riding exercises and does not include classroom-type instruction. It is a perfect way for you to reinforce basic skills on your own motorcycle. A school bike can be provided but is not recommended for the course. A skill test is an option and may be provided as a self-assessment opportunity only. This course WILL NOT earn you a License Testing Waiver "Graduate" Card for North Carolina. You must take the Basic Rider Course to qualify for the skills waiver card.

  • Six months or 3,000 miles experience required.
  • Must possess a valid motorcycle license or motorcycle endorsement. A motorcycle learner's permit is also acceptable.
  • Must be 16 years of age or older. Students under the age of 18 must have the written consent of a parent or guardian. Parent or guardian must accompany the rider on the first night of class and sign a waiver for the rider to operate a motorcycle.
  • Requirements for the class:
    • Long sleeve shirt or jacket.
    • Long pants.
    • Sturdy over the ankle boots or shoes.

    • Protective eye wear (glasses or face shield).

  • Must provide a street legal, properly licensed motorcycle.
  • Must provide proof of insurance.
  • Must pass a visual safety inspection on the morning of the class.
  • Dress for inclement weather. Generally, instruction will only be cancelled in the event of campus-wide inclement weather.

Advanced Rider Course

This is a one-day course that complements your basic motorcycle rider skills and helps with personal risk assessment. It includes a fast-paced classroom segment with several fun interactive activities to improve perception and hazard awareness. Range exercises enhance both basic operating skills and crash-avoidance skills. Improving your braking and cornering finesse is emphasized. The course is beneficial for riders on any type of street motorcycle.

3-Wheel Basic Rider Course

The 3-wheel motorcycle training and education course is a basic learn-to-ride course. It provides the same fundamental skills as the MSF BRC, but on three wheels. You can ride your own 3-wheel motorcycle, or a school 3-wheel motorcycle can be provided. The course consists of both classroom and hands-on instruction. Upon successful completion and passing both the written and riding skill evaluations, students will receive the DMV Waiver Card.

      • Motorcycle must pass a visual safety inspection on the morning of the class.
  • Dress for inclement weather. Generally, instruction will only be cancelled in the event of campus-wide inclement weather.
  • Students ability to balance a bicycle prior to taking this course is not as great as with BRC. The 3-wheel motorcycle is a stable platform. Those with health concerns and limited mobility should consult a physician prior to registering for this course due to the demanding physical activity required.

Attendance Policy

All classes require 100% attendance and participation. Plan to arrive on time and stay for the completion of class every day.

Refund Policy

Due to the high demand of this class and limited seating, there is a 48-hour drop and refund policy. To receive a refund, you must notify us at least 48 hours before the start of class. There are no fee exemptions.
